Apparantly bigger than eBid - and the official "number 2 online auction" site after eBay, with roughly 1 million listings.

    http://www.cqout.com/

They have recently started an affiliate and advertising programme, so this may well drive more traffic into those active listings.

NBot tried listing or buying on it yet, but it seems to have come from nowhere!

CQOut is certainly cheaper than ebay, and Suzy on the Gadget Show seemed to get pretty good prices for the PS2 etc that she sold. I think we should all start using it to put the pressure on ebay to cut their rip off fees.

Odd how we all overlooked this one, I'll go and check it is on the FAQ as at the moment as soon as someone asks about main competitors to ebay we tend to just say ebid, and a quick look at CQout shows this looks much more professional than ebid.

I'd be interested to hear people's experience of cqout, anyone registered yet or planning to give it a try?

If I get a chance today I might set up an account so watch this space.

EDIT. Just registered ana co!!!! with them. It costs £2 for verification and for some reason it would not accept my debit card, although it does allow debit cards from their drop down list, but i registered with a credit card in the end.

    Sorry, me again!

Just reading through all the T and cs and the payment schemes are different. All seller MUST offer the CQ escrow service and for sellers this is completely free, however for buyers it says the following:

SecurePay fees are paid to CQout by the buyer, as it is the buyer who initiates the SecurePay process as a means of protecting their purchase.
SecurePay charges the Buyer a fee of 4.9% of the total cost (Final bid price + delivery charges) agreed between buyer and seller, subject to a minimum fee of £2.50 ($3.59 USD). SecurePay fees are subject to VAT at current rate of 15%.
SecurePay fees are calculated and clearly displayed for each transaction before the buyer make the decision to proceed with payment.

I assume that means buyers won't use it for small end items, so you'll need to factor in other payments like cheques or bank transfers and I worry if that is going to be off putting for buyers who are used to the convenience and safety of using paypal for everything. Once i get some proper time I will play around with bidding and listing an item and see how the payment options work.

Also be aware of this bit:

2- In the instance that the Seller requests the transaction to be cancelled due to a legitimate or honest reason for not being able to supply the goods, then the Buyer is refunded the SecurePay sum plus SecurePay fees. The applicable SecurePay fees are charged to the Seller's account.
One other thing that may concern people selling high end goods is the 'hold' element of the funds. I know new sellers don't like the paypal hold, and the cqout escrow works the same, funds are held until buyer has the goods, checks them over and then confirms they are happy. If they don't do that then funds are not released unless seller provides full online tracking.

Another warning though, they allow very adult material, so if you are used to browsing with your children around just be careful what you click on. However the adult sales may well be a boon to people who feel this is an area that is neglected on ebay.

I've been fiddling about and there are loads of fake items and also as per my earlier post it is odd to see such a high profile 'adult' section with some seriously '' stuff.

I decided to buy a few bits and pieces but the categories I would normally frequent have nothing for me at all. I would normally buy books to read but the ones I am interested in are all RRP+ which seems odd and I assume I am missing something obvious. How can a book in the charts that retails at £6.99 from any high street store, and less from places like Tesco etc sell for £7.99 plus £3 postage? These are not rare books, just plain ordinary chart paperbacks.

I'll leave it for now and go and carry on browsing later.
