Buying in Ashford Kent, Advice Please

Hello,

I am looking to live in Ashford Kent. Can anyone who knows the area give me some feedback in terms of good area's and bad areas within Ashford and what to avoid.

This is not an immediate buy, but I am looking around for a good deal.

Thank you.

Avoid Stanhope estate, you would be much better off iin one of the surrounding villages like Great Chart, woodchurch, Wye, bethersden, Ashford itself leaves a lot to be desired.
    Tenterden is also nice.

    Thank you.

Would you not reccommend Ashford then?

I saw this place advertised in Kingsnorth? Any comments?

I dont personally like Ashford much, but kingsnorth is ok, if you like big modern housing estate type places. Depends what you want?
If your after a modern house on an Estate, then Ashford isnt bad value, but I personally would not choose to live there.
Some of the outlying villages however are very nice. I do know people in Ashford and some of them are very happy there, depends where you compare it to, I guess.

OK. I now live in London. I chose Ashford, as I need to be able to commute in London. I am always open to suggestions and ideas. I have been to Ashford twice. But haven't really spent much time there. Couple of hours visiting someone.

I live 5 minutes from Canary Wharf London, so you can imagine, the housing estates in Ashford seem quite to me :)

My ideal would be a secluded area. I prefer not to be in a housing estate. At the same time. I need to be able to commute to London by train.

if you listen to the people on the 'other' house price forum (on MSE), they often talk about the fact that the Wilsons have bag loads of property to shift in Ashford and when they do, the prices will drop through the floor, so you might get even luckier

Ashford, like Sittingbourne, has loads of new builds slowing down the market, but it does keep things cheaper than other parts of Kent. Will it be possible to get the channel tunnel rail link trains and change at Stratford? Many existing services will move to St Pancras.

Look at the railway lines. There are lots of villages with stations, such as Headcorn, Pluckley, Staplehurst, Marden, Longfield, Higham, Farningham Road, Meopham, Sole Street, Lenham, Charing, etc etc etc. Or small towns like Faversham are quite cool.
    Been away for a while.
