Rental query - scuffs on the wall.

The hall corridoor is so narrow that I scuffed the wall with the sofa when moving into the property. It will need to slightly filled (as the scuffs are slightly indented into the wall) and repainted.
The hallway is massive, ie - the ceiling is very very high, so repainting the entire hallway is a big job.
When I move out, will I have to pay, out of my deposit, to get the entire hallway repainted? Bearing in mind that it isn't a new property, and the hallway wasn't perfect when I moved in?
Or, - will they just put it down to 'wear and tear' ?
I am happy to paint over the scuffs that I did, although i'm sure the paint will not match the rest of the wall, although I could just paint say 8 feet high for example and it'll probably won't be too noticable?

If it needs filler, it's not a scuff
contact your LL, & ask what paint they used.
Painting to 8 foot high only is a really bad idea.0 -
I asked and they're reply was "we don't know but there's probably the same paint in the loft". (They forbid me to use their loft space, as the landlord uses it to store HIS stuff!").
But anyway, - even if I use the same paint, it probably wo'nt match...
Is this wear and tear, or will I have to pay a professional to repaint the ENTIRE hallway!??0 -
The LL can exclude the loft from your rental. This is not unusual, but you should have been told about this prior to signing your contract.
Do you have a signed inventory? What does it say about the state of the hall walls?
Gouges in the plasterwork are not scuffs. I would not consider them to be wear & tear. However, this doesn't mean that you will have to pay to repaint the entire hall. Depending on when it was last painted, you may well have to pay a share of repainting the entire hall.0 -
Ah yes, the inventory, why they hell did I not think of looking at that before. It states in reference to where I have caused the minor damage:
"patchy patinwork, paint peeling below meter box and off gas pipe. Scuffed in places especially at lower level."
The meter box is the opposite side to the wall that I have slightly indented.
They probably would not have noticed had I not said anything, - but me being honest, I told the lettings agency what I had done when I moved in, as I wanted to know the colour of the paint so I could correct it. Probably silly of me.0
