I ended up buying a Saab and now frequent Saab Forums with my own gripes, failures and niggles but the most common significant fault (EGR Valve) is a couple of hundred quid to put right.
The GM stuff with the 1.9 engine:
EGR problems asside they really are truely awful.
Nice looking, great to drive, but terrible mechanical problems...!
Alternators.
Manifolds.
Fuel pumps.
Fuel rail.
DMF
Gearbox problems.
We still stock the 93's but end up rebuilding most of them lol0 -
Precisely, I cant argue with that, but none of it costs over £3K to put right (although there are some horror stories about fuel pumps, they are, however, nothing like as common as the BMW Turbos).
GM destroyed the Saab name. Don't get me started on the crunchy front suspension or the stock Audio they fitted.0 -
I think most manufactures design for 100K miles anyway, so its had a fair life, and I guess its just one of those things.
My wife has had 2 BMWs and no problems at all so far....touch wood!0 -
Not surprised BMW will not help if you went outside the dealer network and the warranty company need pursuing if the policy claims to cover the turbo, especially as they forced you outside the dealer network for the repair in the first place. If they think the BMW diesel turbo of that age is too risky to cover they should have made that clear before you bought the policy. "It's BMW's fault" isn't good enough.Anyway, just heard back from BMW "goodwill". It wasn't very "good", nor "willing". They're refusing to help at all (not even a percentage) dispite it being related to the breather problem. They cited two reasons - firstly that I had a 3rd party warranty (which didn't pay because they claim it's BMW's fault!) and secondly because I had the turbo work done somewhere else.
Bullsh**
Doing that last service away from the dealer doesn't help for good will payments either.
Do sympathise with your situation.0 -

Forgot to mention the constant knocking from the rear suspension, regarrdless of what you replace lol. Oh and the amplifier under the passenger seat which kills the radio, indicator sound and parking sensors!0
