DatabaseError,
Deeply gratifying though this tactic might be to Redmond Rednecks, it does not, at first blush, suggest itself as the optimum manner in which to preserve and retrieve intact the OP's important data on the innocently murdered device's hard drive.
It is, however, understandable that the overwhelming gut instinct of anyone afflicted with Windows would be to eradicate the problem at source.
Stranger Than Fiction,
Shame on you! It's not your poor Mac's fault.
Your local power station was probably running on GatesWare; it all likelihood it's riddled with viruses, contracted from flossy_splodge's endless HijackThis missives.
You might at least have given your Mac a surge protector after all its loyal and faithful service to you, instead of subjecting it to the National Grid's version of the electric chair for a crime it never committed.
Any luck with resetting the PMU?
Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:

you'd now be better off living in one.

If you divulge your approximate location, there may be someone local with the knowledge to help you. I do this in my own area. First thing I'd do would be to measure the internal battery voltage and replace the battery if it's under 3.1 volts.0
