Dont know what to do!

Hi

Ive posted here before about my student debt - and how I am over my student overdraft by £154.00.

I am now recieving phone calls from halifax - have not answered as I am far too scared and I dont know what to do :( I have never had to deal with this before. The money WILL be paid on friday - I want to tell them this but I really dont know how to go about it.

This is all making me feel very very sick :(

Do they have an e-mail address on their web-site?
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • They do have one for online banking queries, but I cant see one for other queries, says they cant respond to specific account enquiries!

If it's definitely going to be paid on Friday, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Only a few days to go!!
Have they been charging your bank account? If so, look to get them refunded.....
  • I just dont know what to do, I know its maybe not the most serious of debt problems but I've never been in this situation.
  • Yeah they have been charging me, but surely the charges are ok coz its my own fault I'm over the limit?

Friday cant come quick enough, I need out of this mess then I can put my mind at rest. Would it be worth phoning them to let them know, or will I just leave it?

I'd give them a ring.... if you're going to clear it, there shouldn't be a problem. Plus, they'll be glad of it, because I used to work in credit control and the person you speak to will get your payment to add to their stats. They won't give you a hard time if you are looking to clear it in full at the end of the week.
    BTW: reclaim those charges!! :)

For what its worth if it was me I would just ignore the phone calls if it is going to be paid on Friday anyway.

I know its horrid having them chase you but you are in a fortunate position come Friday it will be sorted.

Try not to stress too much although easier said than done I know.

Hey friday is a big day for both of us - I get paid that day as well - and the relief is like no other feeling in the world. I've likened it before to a nicotine hit because it is such a rush, knowing you can pay off some bills!!

If Halifax are ringing, ignore them till Friday! they won't do much, it's not like you're a really bad debter.

Once your money is through and the current OD situation is sorted, I think you should sit down and do a list of your monthly income and expenditure and start doing some serious budgeting so as not to get into the same pickle again. There are loads of ways you can save money and one way is to keep a daily record of your expenditure, right down to every single coffee and Mars Bar. You will then see where cash is leaking away.
Once you have a budget and a record of where you can save money, it will be easier to approach your parents - they will see you are being serious about sorting your finances.
