Back boiler removal, combi fitted

In the Berkshire area quoted £1965 for:

Drain down central heating system
Remove old back boiler
Install new boiler in loft space
Flue to be installed
Alter pipe work as deemed necessary
Run condensate pipe into gutter
Fit 5 TRVs to radiators
Alter electrics as required (instll frost stat, pipe stat)
Insulate all pipework
Flush system
Install inhibitor
Fill and test system
Remove gas fire

I currently have these questions for this company:
Which make of new boiler?
What about removal of water cylinder?

And one for you guys..

We have two water tanks in the atic... larger one in the middle and a smaller one above the water cylinder. Am I right in thinking that the smaller one will be redundant when we have back boiler replaced with a new boiler? And could it be removed?

Good afternoon: A very cheap quote for the southeast and a BBU to combi conversion to boot! I'd love to know what your RGI plans to fit for that money. The job should include removal of F&E tank, cold water storage cistern and the HW cylinder as well as a powerflush and fitting of a Boiler Buddy or Magnaclean. Safe installation of a boiler in a loft should also include other items as detailed here

Check the RGI's registration: note as of 1 April this will be with the Gas Safe Register notCORGI. More from the EST on the specification/installation of gas central heating available here

Let us know how you get on.....the cheapest quote doesn't mean it is the best quote;).

Thanks Canucklehead for the really helpful reply.

We've been working on the requirements for the loft... this RGI informed us of these requirements when he came to the house (something others did not!). He also showed us his CORGI card (although thanks for the heads up about the Gas Safe Register) and seemed to do a much more thorough inspection of the various areas compared to the other two.

Yeah I'm quite keen to know the make of the new boiler too. This quote is very similar to another one... we just got a much better feeling from this guy... he seemed very thorough and experienced but not in a pushy shovey kinda way. Other quote was £4370 includes a new Baxi boiler and a bathroom towel rail-type radiator which we have decided against now.

 That is a huge difference in price from your other quote (especially for a Baxi;))..was Mr. £1965 quoting for the same job/specification (minus the towel radiator)?

Don't know which boiler Mr £1965 is planning on but Mr £4370 has Baxi Duo Tec Combi 28kw HE A rated in his quote.

As you said only other differences are no towel rails from Mr £1965 and his quote doesn't mention removal of water cylinder or tank in atic.

    I'm confused too.

Good afternoon: Maybe three is the charm;)...get another quote in for a full specification installation .The OH installs Vaillant and Viessmann...I'd recommend the Vaillant Ecotec 831 or Viessmann Vitodens 200 range.
A BBU-combi conversion is labour intensive if it is done properly. Please note: both your hot and cold supplies will now be under mains pressure and this will impact on the performance of your brassware eg. taps/shower mixer might be for low pressure only (gravity fed).
