Who is doing well out of this recession?

Other than the debt collectors who is benifiting out off this almighty recession as someone always is?

With savings to invest in a new business venture where should i be putting my money?

    I am!!

I got made redundant (boo), but won my appeal for wrongful dismissal and got compensation on top of redundancy pay. And I now have a better job than I had before - doing something I've always wanted to do. In a company that seems to be doing better the longer the recession goes on for - A sports betting company!

I had enough cash from the appeal to but a new laptop & printer (and some other bits & pieces), cover the costs of starting up my own sideline business and have enough left over for my ISA & savings account.

    Yay to the recession!! :j

Good work SJ, sounds like you've come up trumps. I don't even know if IVA companies are going to do well in the long run because when hyperinflation hits - anytime between now and 2011 - people will need every penny to buy bread, never mind pay creditors.

I think travel insurance for the over 60s are doing well because they are taking savings out and going abroad.

Stats from a newspaper I read show that cinema's, fast food chains, cheap store clothes like primark etc seem to be doing better during the recession.

I don't see the recession as a negative, just a time where it seperates the wheat from the chaff!
  • Surprisingly I'm doing well. I'm an estate agent & this month has been my best month yet. I think its because the houses are becoming more affordable at long last

    I've a friend who runs/owns a small cobbler's shop and he's been really busy.

People are opting to have their shoes repaired, rather than buy new ones!

Some bankers are. A win win situation, bonuses if they do well, bonuses if they dont. Nice pensions for some when they are incompetent baboons

Apparently Dominos Pizza and video rental companies due to people having nights in rather than going out. Also I read that us women buy more lipstick and chocolate! I can also confirm that rental prices for property in my area of London have soared (thank goodness I am locked into a good contract and not looking for somewhere else to rent - can't afford to buy, can't afford to rent somewhere nicer...)

Also, I read that Aldi and Lidl may well be doing well but the other supermarkets have also seen a shift in their customer profile: people who did use Waitrose are now using Sainsburys, people who did use pricey delis are now using Waitrose and so on and so forth. It's the top/exclusive end of the food chain of food providers who really have to worry about business.

Someone also tole me the other weekend that's a baby boom on the way - all those nights in, I imagine...;)
Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...
