Save money on McAfee

Yesterday I had a warning that my McAfee protection subscription was due for renewal. It is total protection allowing installation on 3 computers. When I pressed “renew now” it told me it would cost £59 for the next year! Go on the McAfee web site and it offers the same protection for £29.37! So I bought it and it downloaded fine. Installation is a bit protracted, because it sees that your PC already has a version installed so it strips that out and downloads the new one. I have also applied it to my laptop under the 3 computer protection. The saving is nearly £30, so the moral is don’t re-subscribe, load a new copy.

I use your money saving site and have saved £££££ so I just thought I’d let you know the above as they both represent good savings.

Cheers

...or you could have bought the excellent Kaspersky for around £14...or used one of the free alternatives...or asked me..I'd have sold you my mcafee licence -no use to me! (though I'm probably not allowed to sell it!)

You, Sir, are the exception which proves the rule of evolution...I thank you for that! - ninja-text to avoid offence - hopefully
Currently I am running 5 PCs. 4 of which have free antivirus solutions, the 5th (mine) is using the kaspersky technical preview for windows 7 (free for now).
2 days ago I created a thread on here laughing at my brother in law and his horrendous virus/malware infection...he was using a paid for version of Norton 360, he may as well have been using a diarylea cheese slice.
His infection was cured using free products, and he now has free antivirus/malware solutions on his PC...and I expect no more trouble.

I have a copy of mcafee (free from my isp)...but, as they say, once bitten - twice shy, I have used it in the distant past, and it has let me down.

  • This is my first year of McAfee and the 2009 version runs well on my 6 year old machine.

I bought it because of the offer of the full Security Center for the price I'd been paying for just my AV beforehand.

I presume the OP has the same, with the AV, firewall, siteadvisor, anti-apam and Parental Controls.

McAfee is not as bad a Norton, and is usually in the top 5 AV suites when reviewed by various magazines.
I do use McAfee, on 3 PCs because my isp O2 provide a free 3-licence copy for as long as I use their service.
None of these 3 PCs have been infected or compromised in any way.
On the other 3 Pcs in the house I use a paid subscription from Kaspersky IS 2009.

This is after using CA Internet Suite for over 6 years without any problems whatsoever.
CA was ditched after the 2009 installation severly messed up a laptop.
