Hi all, I am having a nightmare with student finances (yet again) who have decided I have been overpaid £2247.35 for the last academic year. I received a total of £7566.95 in 2007/2008 in the form of student loan (£4510) HE Grant (£1000) PLA (£1435) and Child Care Grant (£431.55). i am married with 2 kids, one in childcare. my husband earned just short of !15000 before tax. I find the whole system extremely confusing as I received PLA in my first year 06/07 and am apparently entitled to it again this year. The wonderful SLC have taken the overpayment from my remaining oayments this year, so I will receive one more loan payment and no more grant this year. I am now terrified that they will take it all away again next year and I will be stuck with another massive overpayment that I can't manage.
Can anyone tell me what is the basic threshold for PLA?
TIA

Same has happened to me, but they say ive been overpaid by £4000, its knocked me ill. I cant see how they have arrived at this figure as my partner was in voluntary work and college for the 2007/2008 term and then only earned £800 upon gaining part time tehy qualified from collge. Book an appointment with your LEA and ask for a complete break down as each indicidual case will be dependent upon numerous factors.
Hope you resolve the matter, its not nice hanging over your head at a crucial part of the year.0 -
There is no set threshold for PLA I'm afraid. It's based on your husbands estimated net income for the academic year (Sept - Aug), less outgoings such as rent, mortgage and council tax. Utility bills aren't taken in.
Technically, he could have a next income of £100k, but if he had allowable outgoings that reduced it you'd get PLA.0
