Nut allergy meal on THOMAS COOK

Hi, me and OH and my toddler son are off to Turkey in May, my son has a nut allergy which includes peas, lentils, egg, beans and various fruit - if he eats any of these its pretty serious - so i ordered a meal to be told "it will be fine" cut along story short i thought it would be best to cancel his meal and take food on for him to prevent an incident.

I was told i would have to cancel everybody's meal, also why don't i pay for it and not give it to him????, get a Dr's letter (what would that prove?that I'm lying?) or i could speak to head office, but basically they are not prepared to accommodate him very well. All i wanted to know is what would be in the meal, easy enough i thought.....

They use loads of caterers and so nobody can say for sure, i was then told it would be a fruit plate...well thats no use because he can only eat certain things

Never heard so many different things from one company, stressing out already and we haven't even left yet lol

Anyone have any experiences with regards to allergys and meals?

Thanks
Baby number 2 due April 2010, were having a girl!!! :j

Is this for on the plane?

You know ive got to be honest, a kids meal must only be a few quid. Id save all the hassle - take your own and when his comes there is bound to be someone in the family who can put it away.

    Another problem solved

    Take your own.

My youngest daughter suffered quite badly from food allergy type problems when she was younger (she can, and will, eat anything now as an adult !).
On a trip to the States with PanAm we ordered a "low allergy meal" for her - she got a bowl of cornflakes and an orange - she wasn't allowed milk or oranges !!!

I know i think thats what we'll end up doing, they'll do anything to get you to book but when a problem arises well you can't see them for dust!

  • My mam's friend has a gluten allergy (not sure on the spelling) she just takes her own meals to make it easier.

There are so many people involved in this 'food chain', from ordering, preparing, labelling, loading and serving this meal, that there is no way I would ever chance it if I were in your shoes.
Yes, they should get it right in this day and age, but the opportunity for something not to be right is fairly high. I think you're doing exactly the right thing by taking your own food and another family member scoffing the kids portion when it arrives!
You could probably spend a horrendous amount of time, energy and stress arguing with people at a lower level about this. I'd be inclined to write a very calm, factual, non-blaming letter to the MD of the company (recorded delivery) and see what happens.
    Enjoy your holiday!
