Finally MS admitting that we don't really need a new version of 'Money' (their personal finances software) every year.

There is plenty of open source programs out there however I did like my Money 2001 and used it for a long time.

I think 2005 was the last UK version - which still works fine for me.

Yup - 2005 was the last UK version, but there have been updates since then in the US.

They still need updates to remove institutions when they go belly-up.

Does anyone use the background services feature in their version of money (i.e. direct electronic link to their bank) ?
Can you still buy the latest version of Money cheaply anywhere?
Also, is there a good opensource/commercial alternative?
    Many Thanks,

I use MS Money 2005 to update share and unit trust prices. I don't download bank statements as I prefer to enter transactions manually and balance account against statement to check for errors.

You can pick up cheap copy of MS Money 2005 on eBay and if you buy Microsoft Works Suite it comes included in the package. Also check prices on www.google.co.uk/products

Make sure you buy the UK version as it is tailored for UK use, many people and online stores in the UK sell the USA version. MS Money 2005 is the latest UK version, if anyone is selling a later version it is not the UK version.
