HijackThis output from PC which is infected. Can anyone help please?

I have got myself a pet virus. I have Nod32 which reports no viruses. Since I got the virus my Malwarebytes Anti-Malware won't even run. Ad-Aware will not update. Spybot will not run. I have tried running them in Safe Mode with networking but to no avail. Online Panda Security ran in less than a minute and says I have no viruses. Housecall doesn't even run.

I have XP. The symptoms I have noticed so far are that when I search in Google and choose one of the results, a page other than the one I want appears (typically something like Amazon), my PC switches off the Windows Firewall when it boots up and the problems with updating virus removal tools as per above.

I have only just realised there was a techie section on my favourite website (this one) so thought I would pop a question on here to see if anyone can point me in the right direction so maybe I can have new avenues to explore tomorrow. Many thanks in advance.

At least Hijack this can be downloaded and produces this :

Morning bump. Had a minor worry this morning after booting up as my computer just froze. Seems like I have to make sure I turn on the firewall as soon as possible to solve this.

I think id also review your security
ESETS not as good as people try to make out ~ its just light on resources

I find Adaware mostly useless and PCDOCTOR not as good as Malwarebytes or Superantispyware

And clearly theyve ALL let these through (unless you yourself allowed it?)

Thanks - I'll give this ago. Just to be clear - I already have Malwarebytes on my computer and it won't even open now (it would before). Should it work onece I have done the first change? Should I remove it before I start this process and then download it again after doing the Hijack bit?

EDIT : Just seen your other post.. Superantispyware was only loaded after I got the virus. Malwarebytes was already on but I didn't think it was monitoring the situation in that I thought it was run on demand. Anyway - I'll sort security later :-) Thanks!

Malwarebytes IS run on demand. I tend to alternate the two weekly (My point is if the others dont KNOW theres something on your computer then its next to pointless having them)

If you cant run malwarebytes then reboot and keep pressing F8 to get the 'safe mode selection screen up'
    Select SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING

Right click malwarebytes and RENAME it to something else. Then open it, UPDATE it and FULL scan with it

Right... I have tried doing the above in normal mode and safe mode. I had to rename Malwarebytes to get it to run.

After all of that I still have the issue of my Windows Firewall switching off on bootup (or not switching on) and google results are not sending me to the pages it should (going to ebay etc.).

However, I can now update Ad-Aware etc. so am a step closer.

Hijackthis is now only reporting one issue i.e.

O23 - Service: Task Scheduler (Schedule) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\services.exe (file missing)

but no matter how many times I try to delete it the error is re-reported i.e. it is not fixing it.

    The log is here :

After running the full scan several times in normal and safe mode I still get one virus that seemingly is not getting deleted :

    Run LSPFIX

    Download HostsXpert
    http://majorgeeks.com/Hoster_d4626.html
and then follow the below steps.

    * Unzip HostsXpert.zip
    * It will create a folder named HostsXpert in whatever folder you extract it to.
    * Run HostsXpert.exe by double clicking on it.
    * click the Make Writeable? button.
    * click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
    * Click the X to exit the program

    then ~
    Shut down ESET
Run COMBOFIX (Just follow the instructions it gives)
Post the log it creates here

  • As you appear to have had a DNS Changer Trojan I would change the password on your router if you use one that is.

If combofix won't run try renaming it prior to saving it.

Thanks. I've done all the steps but the last one failed.

    LSPFIX reported no errors.

With HostsExpert there was no "Make Writeable?" button as it was already "Make Read Only?" so I left it as "Make Read Only?"

However running COMBOFIX resulted in it saying "You cannot rename Combofix as ComboFix[1]. Please use another name..".

I then tried saving the Combofix.exe to disk, renaming it and running it but I still got a message saying "You cannot rename Combofix as Combofix New".

Does this mean I already have Combofix somewhere on my PC?

rename it as "QWERTY" (making it qwerty.exe in full)
