Yet another one.....

Well at work today we have recived letters stating that there will be 8 job cuts in my department. Now I work hard and all that woffle etc but I'm still technically in my probation period (moved departments in the company on the 20th of November) and even thought it has been 3-months I never got confirmation that I have passed.

All in all, I know 100% that I'm going to go so I need to look for another Job. No easy task in its self, and it might take some time.

Now here is the big problem. I'm only 19 and I do not know anything about benifits.... I live in a privatly rented room and I have absolutly no where to go if I cannot keep the payments up. My mum's house is full, dad lives 100+ miles away and I cant borrow any money off anyone to keep afloat whilst I can get another job.

I heard about Job seekers allowence and it being not much at all! No where near enough to even cover my £310 rent...never mind my phone bill (£42)! What do I do? I only have so many things I can sell to raise some money and if I dont pay my rent my mum is the gaurenteer.... but she really cannot afford to pay it!

Anyone got any help as to what Im to do, I estimate that I have around 1-2 weeks left...luckly that includes the 6/7 or so holidays that need to get paid so thats a little help. Where do I go when I loose my job, how much money can I claim whilst looking for another job?

Cheers,
Grady

You should be able to get housing benefit to cover at least part of your rent.
You should be able to get a much better deal for your phone.

If your Dad is willing and able to take you, it might be worth considering

Good luck, its tough at any age. I'm nearly 50 and disabled, and I'm pretty sure I will be the one in our group of 10 to be picked for redundancy, not a good feeling

  • If you didn't get confirmation, assume you still passed. There's no reason to think otherwise if you weren't told so.

Get your CV out now, get onto the CAB and ask what help you can get for your benefits/housing allowance - and see if there's any bar/waiting work in your area! You could start working weekends now to get some cash coming in, and hopefully increase the hours later if you end up needing to.
