Sorry for being dumb!
I know it appears on posts at the top of each board but when I saw someone's message starting off with..
"...you can make this sticky if you want..."
I got really confused.

It means that the post is 'stuck' at the top of the forum rather than dropping down like other posts do if nobody replies.Just run, run and keep on running!0

A sticky is a post that have been made so that it always stays at the top of the board no matter how little posts it gets, its useful info for people and is always at the top easy to find.

Used too much glue?
Overly hot and sweaty from heavy work?
A "Sticky" is a post that has been 'pinned' to the top of a forum and won't fall onto the next page as new threads are posted (unless or until a BG UN-stickies the post).
This is so a sticky'd post will always show at the top of the chosen forum.

Hiya
The remark was aimed at the Board Guides for this forum since they are the only people who can make a post sticky to stay at the top of the thread list.
If you find a given thread useful you can subscribe to it by a) posting into it and so you will be automatically subscribed, or b) using the "subscribe to this thread" option in the "Thread Tools" link just above the first post.
Any time you wish you can then click on your User CP link to see if any new messages have been added recently.
Other than that, having a folder for bookmarks or favourites can help you keep track of threads that interest you most, or you'd like to keep handy no matter how seldom they are added to.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. And for anyone wondering, it doesn't automatically make it a sticky if you start your thread "Sticky: ...."0

I means anything that you don't want your child to put their hands in but gurantees that they will. Usually followed by rapid wiping of said sticky hands over face, clothes, walls, Granny, best friends cream carpet, toys, your new blouse, hubbys specs, etc etc etc:rolleyes:Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
