Drowning!!

I had a lightbulb moment this weekend - well in fact it was more light a large lighthouse moment!! For many years now I've been burying my head in the sand and just kept increasing my debt trying to sort it out with consolidated loans and the like but it has now got to a point where I can no longer do that and I owe out every month more than I get in (I actually work two jobs in order to try and get by). I haven't yet worked out what my actual debt figures are because its just too scary but suffice to say that I roughly estimate it to be over £45k and that doesn't include my mortgage. I can't blame anyone else but myself for the debt that I'm in but wish I'd found this site a lot sooner than I did.

Hi Snickersgirl
Welcome to MSE! Have a life jacket!!!
Finding this site is just the beginning and things will definitely get better. People on these boards are brilliant at offering advice, particularly when you can't see the wood for the trees.
If you need any help, the first step is to post an SOA [Statement of Affairs – all your incomings, outgoings, debts and their APRs]. Based on that, we can offer some advice on where to make savings and what debts etc to pay off first.
Best of luck.
BrionaIf I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.0 -
So the first thing we need is a SOA
Use Martin's budget planner at the top to prepare this
In addition, a list of debts together with the APRs
Then I am sure we can help0 -
Hi Snickersgirl,
Welcome to MSE, you'll love it here!
Congratualtions for facing your debts, its a really hard thing to do, I know Im in the same boat as you.
My advice to you would be to call either the cccs or payplan (links at the top of the board) and see what advice they can give you. They are extremely helpful and not judgemental.
Keep posting

Hello snickersgirl
First of all hugs, I know exactly how you are feeling right now. You have done the right thing by coming here and joining this community. We are all here to help and support each other.
Personally I had my head deep in the sand up until last week. When I typed my first post on this board, I felt desperate, lost, stupid and hopeless. Things have improved tremendously since then. Just like they will for you.
Take a few deep breaths and take your time to think your next move. You are not alone anymore.

Hi Snickersgirl
Welcome to MSE and good on you for posting on here, sure you will find some help on here.
You may feel a bit overwhelmed by coming to terms with the fact that you are in debt, but once you have worked out how much and people on here can help give the best advice as to what to do and once you are a little more organised with a budget etc you will feel SO much better.
As Briona said a SOA would be good to see and what debts you have.
It is just great that you have find this site now.
All the very best to you,
Keep us posted

Hi snickersgirl,
I've only recently joined as well, I can honestly say that things can only improve from now, just knowing you are not the only one is a huge help.
Together we will all conquer this!two pound saver club - £20 -
Hi Snickersgirl :hello:
I'm still fairly new and haven't been brave enough to post my debts yet, but I have learnt an awful lot from everyone here (and am still learning).
Well done for facing up to things xxxxxIts nice to be important but more important to be nice!0 -
Hi Snickersgirl
Finding this site is the best thing that you could have done!!
Try not to waste your energy on wishing you had been more careful in the past. It's done and behind you, you can't change that.
What you can change is the amount you spend and your future.
Please post a full SOA when you are ready.
Yes, it's VERY scary because you will be seeing the full extend in black and white before your very eyes, but believe me, it's not half as scary as putting it off, laying awake every night, crying and worrying about what will happen.
Start by reading the full thread by Moozie on this forum and just look at the differences that she has made in a very short time.
It CAN be done, and with our help, advice and support you can do it too.
lots of love...welcome to the MSE debt free family!
...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -
Thank you so much for your kind comments - I am going to go home tonight after work and sit down and try and work out exactly what kind of mess I've got myself into.HSBC Loan £15,679.20
