Garden fencing

We have just been quoted for a 20 metre fence, 6ft high (wooden slats-not ranch style) £1500. This just seems ridiculous when last year it was only costing us £750-£800 max.

Any joiner out there give us an idea? We are in West Lothian in Scotland and prices aren't usually that high. I thought peope would be snapping our arm off for work during the curent credit climate, not trying to rip us off!:mad:

We got a quote for approx 24 meters, 6 foot high and it is around £1k - £7-800 is just for the wood! You might have guessed I am in the Glasgow area.

The price you have been quoted might sound fair if its for closeboard fencing. Some of the timber suppliers which we use, have recently bumped up their prices.

Also, what you need to take into account is what is currently in place at the moment. Is there an existing fence which needs to be removed? are there some shrubs and roots which need removing prior to the fence going up? Is the location of the fence in an area prone to strong winds? and has the contractor priced this consideration into the quote.
