    .com

But if ur planning on a big website, it wouldnt be a bad idea to go for .co.uk as well. Domain names cost less than £1 a month.

Depends what your website will be doing. If it is specifically a UK site it might look better to have a .co.uk domain name. Otherwise I'd go for both with the .co.uk resolving to the .com site.

Have you had any thoughts on hosting? Maybe some hosts have deals for buying domains and webspace together.
  • Definately get both, if your site takes off you will wish you had. Domains are really very cheap, I buy .co.uk at £1.99 per year and .com at £8.90 per year. Catch-all names can also be handy if you are aiming to get big hits. I have a website for ICT resources to support my students doing various GCSE level courses, I have a .co.uk a .com and a few extra domains related to the courses themselves. Most of my traffic arrives on the .com but a few each week are picked up the other way. As I'm not making any profit out of this other than from Google Adsense and Amazon referrals (which are mainly for my purchases!) I'm looking to get traffic to make all the hard work seem worthwhile.

A hosting package is also a good idea, again they can start cheap and get more expensive as your site grows but without one you may find you are too slow for people to bother with.
The best things in life are NOT free - but they sure are cheaper with MSE!:j

I find that if you're a web based, online type company, .com is definitely worth getting. Or as people have mentioned anything big, or where your name will be well known.

On the other hand if you are for example a small furniture shop with a local market, then a .com domain isn't really necessary. It really depends upon what'll be on your site.

I bought my personal domain with .com, as it's just better known and more global.
