Hi Cheerfulness I think I may give this a go. Do you know if they give any details anywhere about how far posts should be apart etc.:D
I have just bought climbers (black forest, couldn't possibly have the pictured ones I have kids:rotfl: ). It says on the pack that plants should be spaced 60cm/24in apart if that's any help.

I'm looking forward to having a go at growing these. I just hope at nearly £3 for 4 seeds I don't kill them off!

    I've been Money Tipped!
couldn't possibly have the pictured ones I have kids:rotfl: ).

It's the bloke next door looking over the fence at them that would worry me!

Then again I don't think I would want my husband seeing them, don't want to give him any ideas.

Didn't see anything mentioned about measurements, only that they need to be stable as they will be supporting a lot of weight.

Everyone seemed to do it differently, wigwams with canes, two posts with a horizontal bar over the top, etc.
I'm just planning on looking around for whatever bits I can find to make some supports and keep notes on what does and doesn't work. ;)
Would be very interested to see how these work.:D

Do not know if anybody else has seen this but I have seen recently that you can grow courgettes up posts. What you do is make a teepee with 3 garden canes, plant the courgettes on the inside of the canes and rather than let them spread out you tie them up to the teepee so they end up a bit like Runner Beans.

Does that make sense and has anybody else heard about this.

I thought ALL courgettes, marrows, melons, cucumbers, gourds and squashes will climb if encouraged. They all have little tendrils don't they? Tendrils are for climbing by clinging on to things. You can train them up fences and wires and nets. Not that I am an expert but that's my understanding. I've seen a wire fence with pumpkins hanging along it like Christmas decorations.
