Office-based seed swap help!

Hi all,

I'd like to set up a seed swap at work. Being spontaneous I was just going to put some sort of container in the staff room with what I have to swap in it with a notice explaining what it's doing there...and therein lies my problem; I've never done seed swapping before and don't really know how it works :rotfl:

Has anyone tried this sort of thing before? We don't have a lot of spare time at work so it's not like anyone could co-ordinate it as such, in the way that I imagine it usually happens.

Can anyone recommend some way to make this work, is there a simple set of rules or something that could create a bit of an order whilst still encouraging people to take part?

Thanks in anticipation,

:j

A notice encouraging people to leave seeds as well as take them might help?

I'd try putting up a notice, e-mailing peeps etc. that during a lunchtime on a certain day anyone who is interested should bring in their seeds to swap. All need to be in labelled bags etc. and you can't participate unless you contribute, maybe encourage people by listing what you will bring in.

That said, it's a wee bit late for enthusiasts for a seed swap - many will have already got started sowing under glass.

If you have a look on a site called Allotments4all you will see how they do regular seedswaps. It seems to be a popular idea to do them by post. Someone starts it off and when you receive it you put something in and take something out.
Or, you can list seeds you don't want anymore (mention if the date is a bit iffy) and ask if anyone can spare something you do want. Some don't want anything in return. Most are very generous with the postage but some ask for a SAE. One lady sent me a great rhubarb clump and said she didn't want the postage but I sent it anyway as she had put £4 on it!

    Thank you everyone!

I realise it's already a bit late but a lot of us are newbies and we are up north so still sowing time for a lot of things. I'll check out allotments4all and any more ideas welcome!
