If anyone can help with this. I would like to find out more about how thermostatic showers are powered. So have a couple of questions.
1. Do they need to be connected to the power supply?
2. How does the thermo shower actually heat the water or does it need to be fed from a cistern connected to a boiler?
3. If i have a combi boiler could i connect the thermostatic shower directly to the hot water supply without the use of a cistern?
Or does all of the above depend on the type of thermo shower etc? Can anyone recommend a good brand or model of thermostatic shower? At the moment we have a Triton electric shower.
thanks

We installed a Mira Go electric shower just over a week ago. It's our second Mira and it's brill. Very simple to use which is important to us as our DD and her friends use our shower and we don't want any of them burning themselves.
When it was installed we did have an annoying drip. We rung Mira and an engineer rang back and arranged to call at a time that was very convienent for us. He said he would be there between 8.30am and 10.30am and came at 8.30am. He replaced a valve and we have no more drip.
Sorry no help for thermostatic but a vote for Mira:)~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Thermostatic showers just adjust the hot and cold water flow to keep the temperature constant even if other people are running taps or flushing loos etc. You can connect them to a combi, but best to check with the shower valve manufacturer first, and the ideally your combi should be modulating - most modern gas ones are.
This one says suitable for all plumbing systems:

This one says low pressure operation, so I wouldn't use it with a combi which delivers hot water at mains pressure:

We have a Grohe and love it, but they are not the cheapest.0 -
We have fitted an Aqualisa thermostatic shower for our daughter, it is excellent. She has a combi boiler.0
