Capital One: "You have been pre-selected to apply..."

Options
Having been rejected twice for by Capital One over the past six months, I was surprised to receive a mailing from them the other day informing me that I have been "pre-selected to apply for a Capital One Platinum Mastercard".

Does this mean that if I were to send back the application form I would definitely be accepted this time? The offer is 0% interest on balance transfers until 1st June 2007 (with 2% fee).

Incidentally, the mailing also says:

"Transfer a balance on application and you could get a credit limit of up to £25,000, or up to £10,000 credit limit if you don't."

Which is pretty well meaningless, of course, with those careful "coulds" and "up tos".

Thanks for any thoughts,

Watson

    From the Capital One website...
Please do not apply if you already have a Capital One credit card, you have applied for one in the last 6 months or if you are not a UK resident.
  • Pre-selected means just that. They've taken your name from their database and sent you out a mail-shot.

    No guarantee of acceptance.

    YorkshireBoy,

Thanks for that. A case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand's doing, clearly. It does rather make one wonder what the criteria are for sending out those "You have been pre-selected" packs.

And the database obviously doesn't include the information that they've already turned me down twice. I suppose the time, resources and materials don't mean much to a big credit company, but it does seem an incredible waste, nonetheless.

    Thanks for the reply.

The criteria seems to be that you are on their mailing list and have shown interest in the past, them possibly ruling out certain areas due to postcodes having high incidence of bad credit. Nothing to do with your status.
