Faulty Washing Machine

I bought a Zanussi washing machine 2 months ago and it suddenly stopped working. I set the machine, it lit up and when I pressed the start button it crackled and then died. We asked for a replacement because it is only 2 months old but was told that an engineer would have to look at it first. As it was a Friday, I had to wait until Monday (no washing machine for 3 days!!!!). The machine needs a new PCB board (?), the brains of the machine apparently and my machine could be fixed by this Friday (a week later). We asked again for a replacement and the shop spoke to Zanussi who have refused and said that a replacement could only be made within 28 days and that we have to have it repaired. Surely it shouldn't have stopped working in the first place after such a short time. What are our rights on this?

We had the same problem with our TV - it died after 29 days - the shop we got it from refused to replace it and referred us to the manufacturer who said they would only repair it and not replace it.
However I am pretty sure you are entitled to a replacement though if the goods are not fit for purpose but you'd have to argue this out with the shop you bought it from not with Zanussi (unless you bought it direct from them?)
You can also ask for a refund I believe.
We wished we had persued matters with the retailer but got so fed up with their crappy customer services that we thought it easier to accept the repair in the end.
Found this blurb on the net for you: If a consumer chooses to request a repair or replacement, then for the first six months after purchase it will be for the retailer to prove the goods did conform to contract (e.g. were not inherently faulty)
good luck![size=-2]Remember its nice to be nice and its good to share!
