Help scratched windscreen repair
In removing a stubborn bird dropping of the windscreen, it has left a scratched area over about a square inch or so, you can hardly feel it with a finger nail, but it catches sun light and is in my field of vision.
Anyhow, Autoglas say that the only thing they can do is replace the screen, this will cost is the £50-60 excess on my policy, which seems overkill to me.
Doing a Google came up with Glas weld who aim to repair rather than replace.
Has anyone used them and if so would they recommend them.

If you have fully comp ins, this can be repaired at most windscreen companies free of charge without it affecting your NCBDon`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -

hmm interesting.. how does that work then, cause I've never heard anyone attempt contacting their insurance company about replacement windscreen unless it's been absolutley nesscesary. I have a smal road chip in my windscreen, dosen't affect my vision or anything, but I'd probs feel safer with it mended.0 -

in the past 8 months, i have had to call on the insurance company twice
first time, the window contractor (RAC) and drilled into the screen, filled with resin, and best part, no cost to me
second time, a stone chip developed into a crack across the windscreen over 2 days! this time, i had to pay 50 squid and they replaced the screen (normal cost £250). so still saved dosh
by the way, i am will admiral
and it was tres easy to organise, they even came to my home to do both repairs. would suggest you contact your insurance company, they are (on this rare occasion, when they have to pay) very helpful!:grouphug: Lets hug!! :grouphug:0 -
So when you come to renew you car insurance and they ask you have you had any claims, what would the answer be??? And if you say yes, I've claimed for new windscren twice (or whatever) could this affect the new premium?0

I did not say FOC for a replacement windscreen, I said a repair, assuming it could be repaired, with fully comp a repair costs nothing and does not affect your NCBDon`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -

You do have to inform insurance company of any claim in the period they request, however windscreen repairs or replacement do not generally affect your NCB although there will be an excess for replacement of windsceen.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
OK thanks. well at least I know this. Never claimed for anything on my insurance. The insurance companies sure have been getting a good deal outta me over the years.
Yeah my insurance policy says £50 excess for windscreens. I'll have to contact them and ask them if they replace like for like. My puma has a factory fitted heated windscreen, so I'd expect the same if I ever needed it.0 -

An old remedy is the use of something called jewellers rouge. This is a substance that jewellers use to polish precious stones, etc. You rub it gently over the affeted area with a soft cloth and it will smooth minor scratches away completely.
You use to be able to get it from jewellers. I assume you'd need to find one that does proper jewellery work and not your chain store type Samuels where they only thing they do is sell overpriced “trinklets”.
Worth a try perhaps?0
