In the spirit of saving money so we can refurbish our bathroom, we decided to take the kids to London on a shoestring. I was pretty pleased with the amount we saved.
El cheapo train tickets with family railcard - £50 Manchester to London for 4 of us!
Bargain Travelodge family room at Battersea - £26 a night!
7 day Travelcard for 2 adults & 1 child (other child was under 5 so FREE) - £55 for ALL travel for a week . Thanks Ken. And some of the bus routes were better than the official London opentopped bus tours - especially if we sat upstairs at the front, no. 1 son is now planning a career as a busdriver.
Traded in Tesco clubcard vouchers for deals at Bella Italia and Cafe Rouge - free food for 4 evening meals!
Looked up cheap/free things to do on MSE and spent most of our time in museums, and Covent Garden (for the street entertainers)
Got discounted tickets from the TKTS booth in leicester square for the Blue Man Group (£20 instead of £40!)
Got 2for1 vouchers from a tip on MSE for entry to the Science Museum Aliens exhibition - saved a tenner!
Fantastic time and well within our budget for a really good break. Thanks Martin and all you MSE'ers out there.

Before you criticise a man, walk a mile in his shoes. Then, when you do criticise him, you're a mile away and you have his shoes.

I hope you take at look at the In My Home board and the Is This Fair? board when it comes to doing up your bathroom for loads of tips and helpful advice from the regulars there.0 -
Glad you had a good time in London gooismeid, the Travelodge you stayed at is 2 minutes walk from me.
Thanks for those links ed_lass, we're doing our bathroom at Easter so I'll make
sure we have a good read on those first. :T0
