Help needed with washing machine please.

We have a hotpoint aquarius wf440 washing machine,one of the drum paddles came off and the machine chewed my washing,I bought a replacement paddle(its definatly the correct one 3 pips at the front) but I cannot get it to fit,it says on many websites that these are easy to fit and are secured by a locking tab.
Any tips on how to fit it as I am at my wits end with it.
