I thought we might have heard but nothing yet..the phone calls have increased but fortunately the advice to divert them to our debt advisor has been great but have to say I've still had some nasty persistent ones wanting a date when I can make a payment..why when you tell them you have no money, don't expect any they still keep at it?
Anyway it got the better of me today and tried to call AiB but they're busy(no surprise there hey!)..so I will try again later and have emailed them..I just need to know and how much longer it's gonna take?..this is a torment, a limbo, I just want it to be over,to be sorted, for people chasing us for money to stop...

I emailed AiB and got a nice message back stating it can take up to 4 weeks for the application to be awarded and that if I sent them my details they would check the progress for me...so we'll see...

    Hi Isabella,
I have been reading the forum every day, looking out for any news from you, so, nothing yet?? hopefully it wont be too long now.
I have been bankrupt a whole 7 weeks now ;) my postman sure has a lighter bag these days, without my daily barrage of mail :D.........I have had no letters or phonecalls since informing everyone of my bankruptcy.
What a difference now too, when I get my wages and tax credits........no more struggling and juggling.......wondering who to pay and who to miss!!!
I am budgeting carefully and my money is lasting a whole lot longer.
I can honestly say I feel like a ten ton weight has been lifted off my shoulders, I feel better than I have done for years.....and dare I say it, - I am not a "grumpy mummy" any more.......my wee boy said that to me one day........the stress was enormous and yes, I was grumpy......:( but, now that the stress has gone I am enjoying life and my kids once more.......I have learned a hard lesson.

    Wednesday April 27th

I came online to check to see if I had an email back from AiB...

Myself and my partner were both awarded bankruptcy on April 19th
    :jWOOHOO:j

I feel rather emotional to be honest..I have cried..but I am happy too..I feel like a huge weight has been lifted..zantelover I know what you mean..even in the weeks since we applied we shifted our bank account and we have more money than we have had in years, not much and yeah we are budgeting too..I just feel like I can breathe again:rotfl:

We don't have the paperwork as yet but will set about sending off copies to our creditors as soon as I can..have to say it's not been anywhere near as scary or stressful as I thought..only a few telephone calls and some stroppy demands for payments through the post but I guess we kept up our payments and struggled every month until we sought advice from a debt advisor so we weren't too deep in it.

This is only just the start I know but I just feel like we are gonna recover and like yourself zantelover a valuable lesson has been learned..never ever again..if we need something we will return to our old way of living and save up for something we need, having youg kids does put a pressure on you to have them in nice clothes & shoes, for them to have holidays, go to all the after school activities with their mates etc..I'm not blaming the kids but we have over indulged these past few years..time for change now though we have told them we're skint and no holiday this year(well maybe manage a camping trip or visit rellies) and that i-pod touch phone thingy one lad keeps nagging on about cos a mate has one..no blinkin' way Jose!

So I am a relieved wittle Izzy...
thanks to all on here for your advice and support, couldn't have gone through it without ya...I am not leaving in a hurry I'm gonna stick around with you lovely bunch;)

good news Isabella......you can sleep easy now ;)
  • Great news hope everything goes ok from now on. I was awarded bankruptcy through lila on 24/3/09 and i called my case worker/trustee yesterday as i had a letter from Scottish Water (from my old business) saying they were passing my debt onto a debt collector, the AIB`s office said it takes up to 60 days for them to inform creditors and she thought my would be done in the next 2 - 3 weeks. She also said if they turn up at the door to show them bankruptcy award letter and if they take it to court take the award to court and give to the sherriff and it will be dismissed. Hopefully it won`t come to that. Scottish Water weren`t very helpful and just said they would make a note of bankruptcy and couldn`t do anything until the trustee contacted them.

Thanks for that Chris...60 days is quite a while. I might take our debt advisors advice and send copies of our BR award to all our creditors..none are priority debts...we were up to date with all utility bills etc.

    Tuesday 28th April

    It's gradually sinking in...;)

It's an amazing feeling not being continually stressed and worried about where we're gonna find money to pay for food for us and the kids cos we've paid all our creditors & bills..and the horrid bank have stolen more money in charges(every month)...PHEW it is one heck of a relief!

Well another call this morning but a rather charming woman who simply took my BR reference and gave me a postal address to send a copy of the declaration to.
I have decided I will post copies as and when requested.

I am still worried about the bank account held for Direct Payments for our son(for respite) I asked a question to the wonderful CCCS via the thread at the top of this section and they feel the bank wont look at it's use simply when the time comes they'll freeze it or close it:eek:..this will cause no end of problems for us..although I am sure our local authority who make the payments into the account may have something to say about it:rolleyes:
I cannot find anywhere who would allow a declared bankrupt to a cheque account...I cannot use a basic account as the provision of the account states it HAS to be a "cheque account"...I have respite booked for our son later in the Summer with a deposit paid but balance due in June!!!
Anyway I have written a letter to our bank requesting they do not take any action on this one account used for Direct Payments for our son...here's hoping they're reasonable about that.

    Thursday 7th May

Well it's been pretty quiet around these parts...still got the demanding letters through the letterbox but the phone calls have stopped!:T

I will be sending a copy of our 1st bank statement, from our new bank account, to the AiB this week.

The bank accounts are still open with no action on them still a wee bit worried about the Direct Payments account, our lad had a respite weekend last weekend and I wrote cheques and they were honoured...maybe the bank are really going to be reasonable after all..but I don't think it goes into the Edinburgh Gazette until later this month even though our BR was 19th April I think the AiB have until 30th May to declare it to the world.

Just gonna have to sit tight and hope all works out OK
