knocking down walls

Hi, just wondered if anyone can help me out .
I live in a detatched house with a really small kitchen, which has a dining room next to it and i was thinking of making the two rooms into one big kitchen diner.
problem is if i do this will it devalue the house as it will then have only 1 reception room instead of two.
The other option was to convert the garage into a kitchen , though i,m not sure if we would be allowed to do this.
Does anyone know if knocking the 2 rooms into one would make a difference to the value of the house if we wanted to sell. any help appreciated thanks julie.

Big kitchen /diners are definitely in.
I think a small kitchen is more likely to devalue the house. Also you shouldn't think of it in terms of number of rooms, open plan can still have specific zones such as kitchen, diner, sitting but rather than physical dividing walls they are defined by how the room is laid out and decorated. Go for it!
