Newly fitted carpet on the stairs

Hello!
Last Friday I had a new carpet fitted on the stairs, I went for a very good underlay and a hard wearing (40% caractere) carpet that I liked. The company is a local reputable one, the fitter finished quite late on Friday evening, and on Saturday looking down the stair I noticed that I am able to see where the fitter had stapled the underlay on every step because of a indentation on the carpet. Has anyone had this problem before. I have called the company and they will come around next Saturday. I just want to know if anyone had this problem before. If so what is the solution for this. I am grateful for any comment. Vera

hello vera i have been a carpet fitter for 30 years and must admit i have not come across this problem before.there is a way to get around this problem and that is to fit new underlay to the stairs and use spray adhesive to hold the underlay while carpet is fitted so there are no indentations from staples. I have used this method and it works fine .hope this helps0
