DVD Decoder please help!

I have just purchased a pc for my grandson for christmas.

I have windows media player installed on it but when I try to play a dvd the message says:-

"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer".

Could someone please help me! How do I install a compatible dvd decoder.

My computer plays dvd's, would I be able to get the decoder from my computer onto the other one?

They have free players with codecs.
I'm surprised that a new system didn't come bundled with windvd or powerdvd or something similar.

I JUST TRIED THIS (NEED A DECODER MYSELF) BUT THE DOWNLOAD LINK FAILED. >:( >:(

Just took me a few minutes to download, and now works perfectly.

Been sitting here for two days trying to figure out why it wasn't working.

P.S. The reason it didn't come with a disc for the dvd is, I brought it from an auction not from a shop.
