    Just listed mine on ebay.
I sold my last one there as well and the buyer travelled hundreds of miles to collect it.
It costs £6 which is not bad for nationwide coverage but more if you want to put a reserve on it.

You may get more replies on the motoring board, so I'll move your thread over there.

  • I think Exchange and Mart on-line does a hold until sold for private sellers. Check the prices of other similar cars - and price accordingly. If you are desperate to sell make sure you ask for a realistic price. You have to phone up after 2 or 3 weeks if the car hasnt sold otherwise they will automatically get rid of the add - so make sure you check the small print.

Autotrade does similar deals but last time I sold my car privately they didnt do hold until sold (though more people use their site so you might be better using them and paying more).

Loot has free ads for private sellers

e bay certainly seems fastest n cheapest oute, currently.

As long as your not too greedy in the price - new ones, are only just over £5000 pre registered, entry models. & with cheap/free finance too, on brand new, the used market aint too clever!!

  • Does anyone know the price to put it in a local paper (something like the Express & Star)

    Thanks

I haven't used a newspaper to advertise the car in ages but the last one i put in the Shropshire Star was about £7 or £8 a night i think - they did an offer though of something like pay for 3 and get a 4th night free.

I would say put it up on ebay on a thursday night on a 10 day auction - then you get 2 weekends worth of people looking and plenty of time to answer questions. Take a series of good quality photo's and put a detiled and honest description of the car.

The could should sell for a decent price then and you may even get people offering various amounts to end the auction early. If you do this get them to pay for the vehicle before you end the auction.

Also place some adverts in the side windows of the car - costs nothing and you never know!

Somebody did that here and got done for not having a street trading licence! The council were clamping down on bogus dealers who'd put a line of cars along a road with ads in. Of course everybody else got caught out too.

I've always put a For Sale sign in my car, seems to work as well, if you get asked im sure they will be able to tell if your a trader or not, they know the ones that trade. they won't bother joe blogs selling their own car.

I know its not cheap but I personally would sell it in the Auto Trader (you're local one is the Midlands one). it costs £40 but puts your car out to people who are looking. Bargain Pages & local papers aren't speciifc to selling cars. The Midland Auto Trader also covers the largest region in the UK and if you price the car sensibly, people will be prepared to travel the distance!!

As you mentioned, you cant get a new car till this one sells, so I think the £40 is worth it as it will open it up to a lot more potential buyers.

Honest, it really happened. Have a look at HonestJohn for the discussion.
    Hopefully it was a one-off.
