Trying to setup outlook to send my freeserve emails

I got so fed up with how slow Orange/freeserve was for my emailing - I decided to try and get my outlook to pick up and send emails for me.
It receives emails fine - but I'm not sure what I should have as my outgoing options in my account settings.
My incoming mail server is pop.freeserve.com outgoing is smtp.tools.sky.com and I've also tried making the outgoing the same as incoming. Neither work.
I use sky for my broadband connection and would like to have my outgoing emails showing as my freeserve email address.
Any ideas?

Most ISPs will allow you to receive via their POP servers but will not permit you to send via their SMTP servers unless you are actually connected through their network. You are clearly connecting via Sky, so the Orange/Wanadoo/Freeserve SMTP server will not work.0

Do I have to open up a sky email address and use it for sending my outgoing emails then?0

I beleive that Orange killed off the freeserve smtp servers. Try smtp.orange.co.uk or something similar.
You could set up an email address independent from your ISP. Most webhosts will do that fairly cheaply. Then you could have an email address like tracy@tracyk.com.0 -
The orange smtp servers are still running but I'm on Tiscali so...U've_been_framed wrote: »I beleive that Orange killed off the freeserve smtp servers. Try smtp.orange.co.uk or something similar.

It's filtered for me so I'd imagine it's still running but only for orange customers.0 -
Thanks Andy
It seems to connect for sending to smtp.orange.co.uk but then says the SSL is incorrect or the server may not support SSL.
Any ideas?0 -
You probably have a Sky address if you are using Sky's SMTP server, if not see http://mysky.sky.com/portal/site/skycom/toolspageDo I have to open up a sky email address and use it for sending my outgoing emails then?0 -
The nmap scan I ran tried all the ports including SMTP over SSL, (TCP port 465, usually), so I can't connect from a Tiscali connection. On that basis I'd imagine you can't either unless you're connecting through orange. Thanks Andy

Have you tried switching the SSL requirement off?
BTW, there's absolutely nothing wrong with using two different service providers to send and receive emails as long as you put the correct 'return address' into your outlook setup.0 -
I'm such an idiot sometimes.
Er... stop agreeing too readily at the back

or...

I KNEW I recognised that port when I listed it.
Anyhooo... it looks like you might need to just change the smtp port from 25 to 587. You might also need to make some changes to login names/passwords, SLL settings and so on.
TBH I'd check with orange to be sure.
BTW, have you tried simply entering your preferred email address as the 'Return Address' in the appropriate box for your email client?0
