How do you get proof of car insurance without a car?

I had my brother listed as a driver on my insurance policy and he is moving so will no longer be using my car. The insurance company is requiring that I show proof of insurance before removing him from the policy. They are telling me there is no other way to remove him from the policy due to a DUI charge. Is it even possible to get car insurance without a car? What should I do?

 Are you saying your insurance company won't take his name off your policy - surely they have the proof of insurance they supplied you with an insurance certificate didn't they! It sounds very wierd to me.

Are you saying he has to be insured on his own car? It's probably some new goverment rule aimed at stopping uninsured drivers. They probably think he's going to become an uninsured driver. Have you tried explaining that he does not own his own car to the insurance company. They must have come accross this situation before. Red tape gone mad!

The easy way to do it would be to leave him on your insurance until it expires and then re-insure without him.

Presumably because of the DUI issue it was expensive to have him as a named driver, so depending on how long is left for the policy to run, doing nothing could be an expensive option!

What I think the Insurers are actually asking you for is for you to return the Certificiate of Insurance that has his name on it.

If you have lost this Certificate they will want you to sign a document confirming you have lost this (Some companies want this witnessed by a qualified person)

Ring them up and confirm exactly what they want.
