Cheap train tickets Edinburgh-Manchester

I'm looking to travel from Edinburgh (or any other train station close to St Andrews, Fife - e.g. Leuchars, Dundee, or even Glasgow) to Manchester (or Stalybridge, which is sometimes easier) on the 30th March and returning on 6th April, but even after days of searching I can't find anything cheaper than around £58 return, for one adult.
Can anybody help me find anything cheaper than this??
Thanks

Have you tried Megabus.com , its a bus journey but its cheap;
Dundee to Manchester £16.50
Manchester to Dundee £16.50
Total return £33 + £0.50 booking fee
But you could also try split train journey via megabus aswellWhoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
Have you tried looking for single tickets each way? That's often, though not invariably, cheaper than a return.
You can get it down to £53 return (£26.50 each way) from Edinburgh on your dates if you choose the right trains - not a big saving it's true. Could have been a lot cheaper had you been able to book earlier0
