Will the RAC take dogs?

I am going to see a friend at the weekend and will be taking my dog. My car is on its last legs and wondered if I breakdown will they take the dog? i don't mind leaving him in the car while it is being towed as he is an Old English Mastiff of some 16+ stone. I am sure my car will be ok but just don't want to get stuck.

cant imagine they will mind, will probably want the dog in the van if you do get towed

No; I was recently uplifted and dog was left in the car.

I didnt make myself clear

I would assume if they lift the entire car onto a low loader they would leave to dog in the car, but if you were being towed with an unassisted A frame or by lifting the two wheels off they would want the dog out of the car?

I know council wheel clampers wont move a car with a dog in it, as they then have to look after it!

A 16 stone Mastiff? If you are correct then the OP might need to check first. I can just see the tow truck guy trying to figure out how to deal with it.

A interesting question, I have breakdown cover and take my dog in the car, it hadn't crossed my mind as to what would happen to the dog if I broke down. They say they take all passengers home but does that include dogs? I'll be interested to know if anyone has had this happen to them and what was the outcome.

If there are any domestic animals in your vehicle, their onward transportation is at our discretion
and solely at your risk. We will not insure any animal during any onward transportation we
undertake. Unless there is a safety issue, guide dogs for the blind, or hearing dogs will always be
transported with their owners.

Just get a guide dog harness for your Bull Mastiff and you will be fine! Questions might be asked about how blind you are if you are driving.

Just get a harness for your 16 stone dog and get him/her to tow you home.

It's an English Mastiff much bigger, I doubt i would be able to lift him into the cab. I hope I could just leave him in the car?!

i would assume as long as the dog isnt a pain in the !!!! and can sit still they wont care, would probably even bend over backwards for the dog, people do for mine!

I sprained my ankle on a weekend away. I was told I couldn't drive for 6 weeks, and was stumped as to how I'd get the 400 miles home with my two daughters and old english sheepdog.

I called the RAC - if only to see if they would take the car home for me (norwich to stirling) and they said they would take all of us. Wasn't the most comfortable of 8 hour journeys with a swollen ankle, two kids and a giant dog, but they got us home for free. In fact, when you think of the petrol saving, it was actually money saving...
