which scenic to buy(used)

it's been narrowed down to the 1.5 or 1.9 diesel expression, has anybody got any advice on the best one to buy;)

Sorry, couldn't resist, I'll answer the question...

If you spend a lot of time doing 60mph+ on the motorway pick the bigger 1.9 diesel engine, you will loose nothing on fuel consumption, could actually work out cheaper on fuel, plus the extra power will make it easier to drive.
If it's around town and shorter slower jouneys the 1.5 is adequate.
Our friends got 45mpg most of the time out of theirs but they don't go long distances often.

I've got a graph of test results somewhere demonstrating that the smaller engines end up less economical than bigger engines at the higher 60-65mph+ speeds.

We had a hire 1.5 at work, and it was adequate, but that was not fully laden.

Are you looking at a scenic I, II or III? If a II, then get the dCi engine rather than the dTi.

The later spec ie 2005-> 1.5 is better as it had 106bhp which makes it quite nippy. I'd personally avoid the Expression. Go for the Dynamique and upwards...

The 1.5 was only in the mk3 and is only a DCi

Don't know much about scenics, but have had 2 renaults over the years and both were vastly expensive for parts and servicing. Not very reliable either (and one was a brand new clio). Both were petrols - maybe diesels are better?

Agree with Robertf, would never have a Renault again.

Its a shame really, we had a new clio 172 which was brilliant fun to drive, but the variable valve gear failed twice in 4 years - first time was OK as it was under warranty, but the 2nd time we had to pay (1/2 the bill in the end) and it was £1000!

I also would never buy a renault again!!! had the drive shaft done on numerous occasions costing a fortune each time. The final straw was the 600 quid repair bill....i then got a reliable VW

and totally can recommend VW, well the Passat was the best car we had.
