Why not get it fixed?? It is an easy job for a refridgeration engineer, they will be able to "braze" the pipe and regas it for you. Try a few quotes from yellow pages. The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0

Hmm, fixing it, never actually crossed my mind. I just assumed it was a write-off.
However, I have got quite excited about the prospect of a cheaper electricity bill now that I am only running a fridge freezer and not an extra freezer as well. Maybe I am over-estimating the saving this will make!?!?
The freezer has been sitting in the back garden for a while now, so I wonder whether it is internally damaged - wiring etc.
Also, a related question: I have legitimately defrosted my surviving fridge/freezer. Thing is, I can already see that it is starting to frost up again - only a day after doing it.
Am I right that the control in the fridge (sits above the freezer) controls both the fridge temp and the freezer temp? I don't want to turn it down too low in case stuff in the fridge goes off. It runs from 0 to 5 and I have it on 2 1/2.
I can't see any other controls....
