what do we do with the house keys

We are moving out of our house on friday and i was just wondering what do we do with the keys for the buyers to get in, do we pass them onto the solicitor although he has not said anything and we have no need to go back for anything.
Thanks

Presumably the Estate Agents will have one set of keys already which they will give to the buyer, in any event AFAIK you just give them to the Estate Agent who will pass them on to the buyer.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Normally you drop them off to the EA who can release them once they have had the call from the soliceter to say completion has taken place.

Usually all but one key is left in the house... this key is used to lock up when you leave and passed to estate agent.

I'd contact your estate agent to confirm what they want you to do and maybe ask your solicitor to pass the info onto your buyers solicitors. Typically they won't be able to collect the key from the estate agent until your solicitor has confirmed that the money has transfered.

I would've thought your agent or solicitor would have been making arrangements for this before now, but - hey-ho, there's still four days in hand before moving day!
  • We are completing this Friday and keys are with EA and seller has moved everything out so as soon as their solicitor confirms funds have transferred EA can release the keys. We shall have our paint brushes at the ready from 9am!

I full agree but I have yet to find a solicitor who pre-empts these types of matters and advises their client accordingly.

Same for EA and that's why when I was working we had a whole series of guidence notes in plain English so sellers and buyers knew exactly what would happen next. These were added to as and when changes needed making but no guarantee anyone would read them.
