Only gas bill in 3 years, £3000!

Hi,

posting this on behalf of my sister.

They built a house about 3 years ago, and ever since then they've been contacting British Gas on a regular basis asking for a bill. BG kept passing them to the new accounts department, and as soon as my sister said they already had gas with BG it was the end of the call - as a result, they've basically been chasing in circles for 3 years trying to get this sorted with no result.

They've just sold the house and submitted a final reading, and BG have just dropped a £3000 final bill on them. Given the time frame involved, is there any chance they don't have to pay the full bill?

If this is the very first time BG have ever issued a bill to this property, then they are only allowed to recover the last 12 months-worth of charges. HTH.
