Can anybody give me some advice with regards to the post office growth bond.I opened a growth bond back in August 2008 with a interest rate of 7.05% payed by visa card £35000. The funds cleared on the 5th august. Like many other people I waited forever for paper work to arrive confirming account details etc., After many phone calls and making an official complaint regarding the the crap service I had been given, I finally recieved my account details with a bond opening date of 25th september! even though my funds cleared on the 5th August! They have said any interest will be back dated from funds cleared. Does this mean?
1. I will have to wait until 25th Sept to get my money back?
2. Or can I ask for my money back on 5th Aug. Ie as of cleared funds?
3. Can I claim my money back now?
4. People I have read about here on this forum, have claimed there money
back before the bond matured?
5. I have heard that you could claim money back, with interest, and without
penalty?
6. In my terms and conditions they state you will be pay a penalty for
breaking the bond?
7. Is it true The Post Office wrote to customers claiming they could have
there money back without penalty, as I have not received a letter?
8. I want to cash Bond in now, what are my chances? does anyone know?

Like you I opened the Growth Bond 7 last year but like many on here have been getting cold feet because of all the money I have invested in Irish Banks.
Last Tuesday 17/3/09 I sent a letter asking the Post office to close the bond on the basis that they were not applying the bond breakage charge.
The proceeds including the interest landed in my bank account today0 -
thanks i will be doing the same0
