Van hire - who's cheapest?
I have just found out I'll need to move house a week today (this Sunday!).
I'm going to need to hire a van for the day / half day.
I'm based in Coulsdon, Surrey however can travel by public transport to pick up the van from a little further away if it works out cheaper.
Who is the cheapest company or does anyone know any good people that offer those 'man and van' services where they give you a hand moving?
How much should I expect to pay either way?
Any other tips on van hire?
Thanks

I run a Man + Van service, but not in yr area.so can give u some advice.
If u have a current clean licence you shld be able to hire a van from a company in Yellow pages/ Thompsons /or off net for about £40/50 per day.
You usually need an accident/damage deposit of £100 or more.Your goods will not be insured in transit and you will not generally get any blankets or straps to protect and secure yr furniture etc.
alternatively, get aMan and Van from directory /net and expect to pay about £30/hr. Check that they're experienced and have Goods in Transit
insurance (also a landline phone and address!). Give them as much info as you can.( ease of access /what floor /lifts?/ how much to go.Happy moving!0 -
Enterprise Van Rentals are currently doing an offer in the Birmingham area for £25 per day. It may be worth while checking to see if they have a depot near to you0

First question to ask when you call - do they do one-day hire on Sundays. When I needed one, I found lots of places have their offices closed on Sundays so I would have had to do a three day Sat-Mon rental.
Finally found a local company who opened for an hour on Sunday mornings for people to pick up, and let you return it Sunday evening and put the keys through their letterbox. One day hire was £50 (this was in 2006). Obviously you do also pay for diesel on top of the hire charge.0 -
Thanks everyone.
Going with a van and man hire.0
