Cheque paid in bank but not showing.

Hi folks

I recently paid in a cheque from Lloyds in regards of an insurance claim last Thursday, I put this cheque into my lloyds bank account, and even though it shows its gone in when checked on my online banking, it has not changed the balance, I know it can take a few days to clear, but where other transactions are made that have been fine, but the cheque balance have not increased the amount at all, it stayed the same until other direct debits came out. so any ideas on this matter.

I know it will be a few days before the money is available but normally it still changes the balance and what is available - when paying in cheques in the past.

It does not add up, cheers folks.;)

Is it for a sizeable amount? Such as over £10k? If so, it may be subject to more checks because of money laundering

Just checked again now online banking, and the CHILD BENEFIT has gone in for tomorrow ,this did not show up earlier and altered the balance but still not that of the cheque that was paid in.

If still the same tomorrow, do you think its worth me calling into the branch just to check on this cheque?

    Cheers.

Won't do any harm. Can you not ring the telephone banking service?

Yes I could do that, have not done that for a long time and sure I had a password or somethink like that before for telephone banking, but I'm sure it won't be a problem, cheers so much, I shall get back as soon as I get some news on this.;)

Was the paying in slip pre-printed or completed by you? If the latter it is possible a keying mistake took the credit off to another account (This seems an unlikely possibility however as I assume staff always check the name of the account that comes up matches yours)

If the online system is showing you the 'available balance' that won't increase until the cheque is cleared.

Banks may differ in whether they show you the notional balance or the cleared balance or both. Don't know what Lloyds do - and they may have changed if it's not matching what happened in the past.

If you pay a cheque into a main Lloyds branch the the balance changes immediately on the online system. Its not available however but it does change.

If you pay into a smaller LloydsTSB branch though or other branches that accept Lloyds cheques, i.e the post office or RBS etc, then it takes a few days to show up.

So I guess it depends where you paid it into.

    Hi folks

    Thanks for your replies.

I actually paid the LLoyds cheque by my paying in slip, as I have my own personal paying in booklet with them and it was paid into my local Lloyds tsb branch where I always bank last Thursday. Never had problems before when paying in cheques in the same bank, they have always shown on the balance straight away, even if not available to spend then.

I did ring them today as I was not well enough to go anywhere today, they told me to go to the branch that dealt with it, so I will do tomorrow, also to take the letter that was attached to the cheque from lloyds.

Thanks for your replies though, much appreciated indeed.;)
