"Lost" bank account

I have a "lost" bank account with Woolwich - untouched since 1996 - the account only has £27 in it - I used the BBA form to reclaim my money - but was told that my funds were untraceable and that was it, there was nothing more that I could do.......
I have the bank book in my grubby hand so that is NOT it....
I got on to the Financial Ombudsman - who told me to return a form that they sent to me - I did this - but the Ombudsman has lost the returned form - this is now getting rather stupid - it has been almost 12 months since I originally tried to reclaim MY money - How much should I be looking at Compensation-wise ?

Have you spoken to Barclays at all? As you have the passbook & a/c number, they should be able to trace it.0

Yes - I have been on to Barclays and they tell me that the account no longer exists
The problem is that the branch of woolwich that I was with - closed down 10 years ago0 -
Compensation? You've only got (or had) savings of £27 for heaven's sake! Compensation of £00.00 I should think.0

The fact that one branch of the Woolwich closed down 10 years ago makes no difference. These days, you hold an account with a bank, not with a branch.
If you are sure it wasn't closed, then raise it as a complaint with them. Chances are, they will pay out, just to stop you complaining. Don't expect a penny more than the money in the account though.
Otherwise, they should be able to tell you at least the year in which it was closed, if not the actual date and closing balance as well.0 -

The fact that you have the bank book is no proof that the account was not closed.0
