Money Saving in USA

I've got a trip to NYC in a couple of weeks and I'm not entirely sure if a lot of stuff is cheaper out there.

In particular, I am interested in:

1. Purchasing a Nikon D50 DSLR

and

2. Some casual clothes (jeans/Ts) and a suit or two.

Does anyone know if the DSLR will be any cheaper out there?

and

Can anyone recommend some places to shop in NYC?

Casual clothes tend to be cheaper.

To get an idea of the camera prices, go on the internet and search American firms. In my experience they tend to be cheaper but these days not significantly so. Ensure you are comparing 'like with like' as there may be accessories missing on some packages.

You also have to bear in mind that there could be sales tax in some States and you could be liable for charges when you import to UK.
  • When I was in NYC about 3 years ago I managed to pick up Levi 501's for $29.99 plus sales tax in Macy's given that 501's in the Uk retails for about the £50 mark -or did the last time I looked it was a bit of a bargain. Macy's is enourmous - I could have maxxed out my CC in there -but didn't lol

If you can get to outlet malls they are really cheap. Crossing over to New Jersey means you don't pay any sales tax for clothes.

We bought our camera at Circuit City, I think they have stores all over the USA.
Here's a link to the camera you were looking for

Walmart is pretty good on prices

The dollar is not too good at the moment though.

Mens clothes are very reasonable, my husband likes Van Heuson, J C Penneys, Ralph Lauren is another good one.
