Options
My washing machine has been threatening to die for about 18 months now so i cant complain but today its finally gone. Im going to go and buy one tomorrow but havnt got a clue on what is a good brand to go for etc. I have 2 small children and a hubby who is forever mucking about in the garden so do lots of washing. Thinking of going for an 8kg one this time. Any help is much appreciated

how much do you want to spend?
im happy with cheap indesit ones. they seem to last nearly as long as the 1000 quid ones. even if they dont, im not bothered, just buy a new one, as they are so cheap.
    Get some gorm.

I have a Bosch one, cost about £250 I think. I would also recommend kitchenscience.co.uk as a good place to buy.
  • no more than £300 ideally, anybody know anything about candy ones? comet have got one 8kg £300

For that price I'd go for a Bosch. They'll have a standard 2 year warranty. Avoid anything Hotpoint or vaguely related.
My latest one is Siemens which is fab but it would cost more that £300.
There are some reviews here http://www.washerhelp.co.uk/

agree about hotpoint. My new hotpoint (6months old max) has been sitting in kitchen since Thursday, full of water and they can't get out to fix it until Wednesday afternoon  Daft bit is, it's probably my nephew who will come out to fix it, but couldn't call him directly because it's under guarantee. blah! BTW Hotpoint and Indesit are apparantly the same company now, although all my cheap indesits lasted at least a couple of years, so maybe they just put the siht parts in the hotpoints

I'd suggest a LG Direct drive washing machine.

Expensive but A+ rated so could save money over time.

I wouldn't worry about a machine being over 6kg it is marketing rubbish. When you have a standard sized washing machine the maximum capacity of the drum is 60 litres and you need 10 litres of space per Kilo of laudry. So any manufacturer that claims a bigger load is just over loading the drum which reduces the wash quality.

I'm afraid I have to disagree about the drum size, my last washer was 6kg and there was now way it would take a duvet or sleeping bag. My 8kg takes each easily.
