Noisy Washing Machine...HELP!

Hi everyone
My Zanussi Washing Machine is making a dreadful noise when it spins.
I did a red wool wash and one of my tops came out with a patch of small black dots on. I treated the dots with stain remover put it back in and it came out covered in the dots and also what looks like grey bits of rubber.
Ive had a quick look on the net for possible solutions and someone has said that if the drum moves up and down when you wiggle it (which it does), it is the bearings.
Does anyone know if it is only bearing trouble that Ive got or have I got something else because of the dots and bits. Also is this something that my Dad could repair?
Thanks

most likely the main bearing. and cause the drum is moving about itll be wearing the (door) grey rubber sealing ring away.Get some gorm.0

I've got the same problem with my washing machine.
If it is the bearings, does anyone know how much it will be to fix the problem, as I'm wondering whether it may be more cost effective to buy a new machine (particularly as mine is over 10 years old!).0 -
the bearing only cost about 10/20 quid, plus fitting if you cannot DIY.
in that case then a new machine is probably more sensible. WMs are so cheap these days.Get some gorm.0 -
They do "float" don't confuse this with excess wear called "side play". With both hands, one hand pulls up and the other pulls down, together, (at the same time) hold the drum and try to move the drum <--> (l/r or t/b)
It might be the door rubber or the exit hose on the under side of the drum or just old soap scum residue.0
