On Watchdog 2 or 3 weeks ago they had a bit about buying tickets on line, and not receiving the tickets.

During the article they said that ticket sellers make their money from the booking fees alone. That is, if a ticket has a face value of £50 they have to sell it at £50 and give £50 to the promoter/venue. All their costs and profit comes from the booking fee.

I don't know if it is true, but it's what the official/reputable ticket seller in the studio said.
  • I bought tickets for a gig a few weeks ago at the venue box office (HMV Picturehouse Edinburgh) and just paid the ticket price but did the same thing last night and I was charged an extra £1.50 per ticket?

For some gigs you can get tickets by text from this site for slightly less than getting them by post from ticketmaster etc: https://www.ticket-text.com/events/The_Forum/The_Vaselines/?refId=ttnl_090318

This is true, I work in a box office and the promoter set's the price of tickets and allocates agents with ticket allocations. He recieves all the revenue from ticket prices. The Box Office charge booking fee's not just for printing and posting tickets but also to cover day to day running of a Box Office, i.e staff wages, IT equipment and maintainence, electicity, computers, the list is endless.
You can buy tickets for our venue without a booking fee at the counters by paying cash or debit card.

You only get ripped by non reputable ticket agents who inflate prices. Although some ticket agents do charge a booking fee and an administration fee this does not amount to the tout ticket prices.

why buy it if u dont agree the charges?!

how u think the agents make money?!
  • might be worth geting a cheap train / coach to the venue, and buying direct- just face value to pay?

Fare might be less than the add-ons?

i bought some tickets to see lee evans back in november at wembley, tickets booked through ticketmaster and there was the usual booking fee per ticket, then when it came to the postage, you could get a link emailled to you, then you print your own tickets, great i thought, but you still have to pay aobut £2 for that !!

They had a chap on Radio 2 the other day from a booking agency. He said that the only way they make money is from the booking fee - the full price of the ticket goes to the performer or whatever. Given that most booking agencies are genuine businesses, they have to make money somehow I suppose.

I'm sorry but I find that hard to believe. Would you sell something for someone and not profit from it.

Believe all you like.... I work in a booking office so I know first hand that the information is correct.
The Promoter of any event sets the price of the ticket and the WHOLE ticket cost goes to him..
Booking fee's are added and this is the way agents make their money..
If you don't want to pay a booking fee this can be avoided buying from the venue direct by cash or debit card...
IIf you don't want to pay a booking fee then GO and get the tickets yourself but don't moan about it....
