Taping Freeview

Is it possible to tape built in Freeview Programmes

Comments

  • Yes, but image quality will be pretty poor, and there are other provisos, ie not being able to watch a program whilst recording. Have a read of this page

We have a digital TV with 2 freeview tuners built in, we also have a digital DVD/HDD recorder connected to it. I regularly record programmes from Freeview and have had no quality issues, only problem I have is running out of disk space as the recorder only has 250gb.

Yes, but image quality will be pretty poor,

Picture quality will only be poor if using a cheap and nasty receiver, insufficient aerial or a combination of both.

I have never had any problems whatsoever with picture quality on my Panasonic DMR-EX77.

We officially don't get Freeview but a big aerial, and decent kit and cables ensure it's a least as good as Sky was here.

It is not clear what equipment OP has? Red Rose may be correct. Using a VCR to record from a digital TV with built in freeview will result in a significant loss of quality when the program is replayed vis a via the program viewed directly on the TV.

I assume that this means built in to the TV, so any decent VCR should still record this to an reasonable quality, after all we all accepted it until HDD recorders appeared.

If the Freeview is "built in" to the TV then I wouldnt have thought you could record to Video unless the TV has an analoug out socket.

Most old vhs video players can not decode a freeview signal at all and so wont record it.

If the freeview box is seperate though, then you can use any recording device you like downstream of it and it will record as good as the old days.

How long has it been since you watched a VHS recording? The picture quality was great way back when ........ there was nothing better. :rotfl:

Does the OP perhaps mean 'record' when they say 'tape'? If so, I recommend the Humax PVR 9300T. Easy setup, great interface, 2 year warranty. About £180 at present.
