Online Access After Closing Account

Does anyone find you can still access your account online once you've closed it?

Capital One disappeard, no access.

Barclaycard Initial still there ''for reference''

Sky Card, still access it and it says I have a £500 limit even though I got a letter saying account is closed.

Virgin Card, still access but only for reference.

Makes me feel a bit uneasy.

Why do you need the online access?

If you need statements for reference, then print them off before closure!

i closed my skycard and could log in to my online account for ages after that...

i thought they didn't close my account but when I called, they said the account is closed and the online thing is just for reference.

You've missed my point. I don't want online access, I want all of it gone. It makes me feel uneasy that information can still be accessed like that, makes me wonder if the accounts are really closed like they say they are.

Accounts are closed when you ask and any outstanding balance is repaid but are open again if any continuous authority payment is presented.
This is why some lenders have them there for reference.

This is only dangerous if your log in details is compromised - the security details on your computer is your responsibility so if you keep changing passwords regularly and keep up to date your firewall and ant virus software you should be safe.

  • Just looked on my Sky Account and it is producing statements each month even though it is closed. I even got a letter saying the account is closed. I will have to ring them up about it.

Fair point but if you have closed an account it should be gone. I don't want to log in every month and change passwords for these accounts. I have paid them all off and I want them all gone. I don't want to have to remember them. Its too much hassle.

You can hide it though - click on Preferences -> Add/Remove Account.

It does not appear on the Remove menu for some odd reason.
