Assessment Centre - Dresscode?!

Hey guys.....im just new to this and was wondering if you help me out!

Basically, I've been invited along to an assessment centre for a financial services company. Iv been told it will consist of two psychometric tests and a problem solving exercise...

I was just wondering what the dresscode for these things are?! Are they as formal as an interview?

ANyhelp would be appreaciated!

Congratulations on getting invited along to an assessment centre day :T

I've not been to one but am of the understanding that you should be formal for any stage of face to face recruitment. You can always phone to check, but it sounds like the kind of job where you will probably wearing a suit at work, so I'd suggest wearing a suit for this stage too.

Hope somebody else will help to either back me up or disagree so you have more of an idea!
  • Yeah thats what I figured to - I just wanted to make sure the general norm for these sort of things incase I turn up too overdressed!!

    Thanks for your reply!

I agree with you. I wore suits to all of my assessment centres - and so did the other candidates. Good luck with the assessment centre, OP! :)
  • Well done for getting that far!

As the others have said, I'd wear a suit!

Kent's careers service has lots of useful information about interviews and assessment centres, what to wear, covering letters, CVs and the tests....

    Good luck!;)

I would say it depends on the format of the day. I have been to initial testing days where its psychometric tests (verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning) and nothing else (no interview at this stage). The dress code was casual and the people running the tests were there as facilitators only i.e. you were only being assessed on what you wrote down on the tests not how you behaved, what you dressed like on the day.

I then had an assessment day which was in-tray exercise, group exercise, role play etc and that was more formal i.e. like an interview.

Congratulations on getting to the assessment day and if in doubt I would either phone to ask or go smartly dressed. The best way to be wrong is to go too formal rather than too casual!!

  • I agree, it's better to turn up and realise you are dressed to formally than too casually! Maybe wear a bright but smart tie or something though so you stand out and are remembered.
